Send email to a large number of customers

Hi,

I hope that someone is able to help. Our company has gone through a name change and we wish to update all of out customers. We have a few thousand that we want to email and also send an attachment.

I can remember a few people sending out large mails before and us being blacklisted. What's the best way to send out this email? I have been looking at companies like mail chimp and testing this but my only worry was when I received the email it was marked as spam.

Best Regards,

Ross

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

You DO risk having email marked as spam. Even if it's a few thousand, it's best you do it yourself. Prepare these emails (from: info@domain.com, to:info@domain.com, bcc: add max 100 recipients), in batches, so you may end up with about 50 or so of these. Then over the course of a few days, send them one by one (slow rather than fast). Maybe even just max 4 per hour.

Use a normal free service, like Gmail, Yahoo or Hotmail and put your clients multiple address in the "BCC" box (blind carbon copy) and put your companies address in the "TO" box, in that way they will see who is sending the mail and only their own mail address will appear in the "BCC" box.
Never enter multiple addresses in the "CC" (carbon copy) box as multiple addresses triggers the mail to go to the spam folder.
