ssis derived column expression

I'm trying to concatenate with zero incase length of column is < 8  but looks like some syntax error in SIS derived column . Carnumber already a string which is converted in prior data conversion task .

LEN(Data Conversion.carNumber) <8 ?    "0" + Data Conversion.carNumber : Data Conversion.carNumber

I am not sure if your column name is really Data Conversion.carNumber?

Nevertheless, you have to encapsulate column names with whitespaces into square brackets:
LEN([Data Conversion.carNumber]) < 8 ? "0" + [Data Conversion.carNumber] : [Data Conversion.carNumber]

You may need brackets around the name - [Data Conversion].carNumber. However, what's the SSIS error you're getting?
