Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials - Change administrator password without logging in?

I accidentally put my installation into a reboot before I had configured the now *Required* alternate admin account for WS2k12R2E, so it came up asking me for the administrator's password, which I never set. Nothing works. Tried Net User from the Repair Command Prompt - the command works but it has no effect. Am I going to have to reinstall from the ground up?

If you didn't create the alternate account, the admin account should still be active (unless you were doing something *very* odd...but you might've been since skipping that step is also hard to do.)  So switch user and use the built-in admin account.

Beyond that, on normal machines, I'd say you could probably go about some unsupported tricks to enable and reset account passwords (yes, even on a DC) but considering how the Essential wizard runs and some of the specific accounts it creates during setup for the Anywhere Access wizard, I think those unsupported workarounds would have disastrous effects this time around.

Truthfully, I'd probably not mess with it and just re-install. The time lost is ...an hour or so? You couldn't have had much configured if you hadn't even created the admin account yet...
