Stateful vs Non-stateful HA on Sonicwalls

I currently have two Sonicwall Network Appliances: A primary NSA 3600 and a secondary HA unit, also NSA 3600. They are configured in a non-stateful HA. My question is about the length of failover between the two setups. Can anyone give me a rough idea of how long a system will be down in a non-stateful HA setup? From what I understand a stateful setup is basically seamless and instantaneous. If a non-stateful HA setup is only a couple of minutes that's not that big a deal. Does stateful HA bring any other benefits to the table to justify the $800 license cost?

Also, am I right in understanding that the separate Active/Active feature just shares some of the work between the primary and secondary so the primary isn't doing all of the heavy lifting? Does anyone know if the benefits in throughput are noticeable?

Thanks
