buffalo NAS

NAS Box: Terastation TS4400D

I have created a folder called FTP
I have created a user called ftpdownloads
I have set the permissions on the FTP folder to Restricted access and allowed the ftpdownloads user read access
The FTP folder has anonymous access web and FTP access checked

If I use an ftp client (wsftp) on the LOCAL network and the user name "ftpdownloads" and password "password" I can log into the NAS box and see the FTP folder and see / download files therin

If however I use the same ftp client from an external sourch and log into the NAS box with the same credentials (my router has port forward on 21)
I can log in but DO NOT see the FTP folder or any of the files therin

Can someone please tell me where the issue lies

I found buffalo NAS' to be very problematic. I had to set some folder permissions to complete access for anything to work.  Remember this is a NIX based system.

Make site your firmware is updated and call their technical support. they are pretty good.

Have you checked the Web version?  If you use the phone app,  how does that work?

I managed to fix this by using the following address in Chrome / IE
ftp://ftpdownloads:password@ OR

Looks like the FTP address needs to be in a particular format to work
