IE; Google Chrome & Firefox - freeze after period of inactivity

I have a friend that I am helping to troubleshoot the following issue - she has a Windows 7 PC and all is working fine except when has IE open (also happens in Google Chrome & Firefox) - after a period of inactivity - usually exceeding 15-20 minutes, she returns to her PC to find that IE is frozen -- my understanding is she reboots to get it working again.  She is using a wired connection to her modem.  I don't think her other applications freeze (only her internet connection) - so even though IE is frozen, she can still open Word or Excel for example.  Any insight you could provide would be appreciated.  Thank you.

That would be good except that it freezes in the other browsers as well!
