Pointing Hosted Application to ‘office 365’ for SMTP communication

Dear Experts
We are currently using office 365 as email solution. But we have a hosted application built on .Net (used by our customers) that still uses our legacy 2003 email system. We are planning to decommission this 2003 exchange server and make use of office 365 for SMTP communication for our application. Could you please point me to any available online resources that I could use for reference for this project? Thank you very much.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.
