"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi Miguel,

An extremely popular package for going from audio to text is Nuance's Dragon NaturallySpeaking:

But I warn you — it is not perfect! It will make many mistakes, especially from an existing audio file (my personal experience is that the accuracy is better from live dictation than from an existing file). Also, be careful which edition you buy — some have the ability to process an audio file, others don't. They're always changing the names of the various editions and I bought mine a long time ago, so I can't tell you exactly what current editions can process existing files — it's probably the Premium, Professional, and Legal editions, not the Home edition (but that's just a guess). I tried that software..
But tell me if i'm wrong, but it doesn't read audio files, only voice from microphone...

You're wrong. :)  As I said in my first post, "be careful which edition you buy — some have the ability to process an audio file, others don't." Over the years, the lower-priced editions (like Home) do not read audio files, while higher-priced editions (like Premium), do.

The current Professional edition does handle audio files. Here's a quote from their website:
Dictate on the go, transcribe back at your PC

Dragon will automatically transcribe the audio files to text back at your PC.
That quote is from here:

Update: There's a one-minute video at the site confirming that the Premium and Professional editions can do it:

Dragon transcription
Here's the YouTube link for it:

Also, here's a 10-minute video with some details (the video says that the Legal edition can also do it):
