I have Firefox on Mint that opens a .pdf file from a NAS share just fine, what error are you getting?

For testing I use File->Open in Firefox and open a .pdf file, file is then displayed in the Firefox window.

I did not install any addons, do you have a PDF reader in Mint? I've installed Document Viewer from Evince.

You can also try and search in Firefox for a PDF addon, for example "PDF Download 3.x" - it will display PDF's in Firefox as well.

Links are with non-standard path separator
And Linux has no clue about windows namespace.
If you use http you should know DNS and HTTP(s) URIs common on internet.
