Brother MFC5895CW Will not install to Toshiba Turion Laptop Satellite L305D-S5881

On my Toshiba Laptop Model # Above, through many ties, I have been unable to install the Brother MFC-5895CW.  The error messages are: 1.  Arguments are invalid, 2. Cannot add a printer because the Spooler Service is not running.  3. Error 0X000006.
When I get through with the installation and check Devices and Printers, the printer is not there or only the scanner shows up.  Have tried this with USB, Ethernet, and Wireless ...none work. When I uninstall between install attempts, I reboot and use Brother's Uninstall program. I also tried connecting to this printer on a different laptop.  It works slightly, but with print errors. This printer was working fine on an I7 last week. When I start u the spooler service, the Error 0X000006 is the result.  I have been at this a week.  Need some help, please.

As you have tried to start the spooler, a Windows repair seems indicated. Start with the suggestions nobus gave. If that does not help, I would do a clean reinstall of Windows.

Have you tried installing the Add Printer Wizard driver from this page?

http://support.brother.com/g/b/downloadlist.aspx?c=us&lang=en&prod=mfc5895cw_us_eu&os=92

First make sure you run the Uninstaller again to remove any driver that may already be there. Also, go to Devices & Printers, select any other printer and click on Print Server Properties. Then click the Drivers tab and make sure the printer does not show in the list. If it does, remove it.

To install the downloaded driver, run the downloaded file to decompress it. Then go to Devices & Printers and click on Add a Printer. Install a Local printer. When asked for the port, create a new TCP/IP port with the printer's IP address. When asked for the printer model, browse to the location of the decompressed driver.

try a repair install - or - if it worked before  - a system restore to such date

The system restore, I have done already, but no joy.  The only available restore dates have nothing different.  I wonder of there might be a shadow copy still around the I could restore from?  I am attaching a screen shot of the Devices and Printers tp show what I see after an installation has run.

what was the solution you used?

Reset of the OS,  the one that you one one other person suggested.  I was working with three computers, all with very similar problems.  I was reluctant to do that early on because the files structure was a bit of a mess and wanted to be sure that I had everything.  Each of the computers was a different generation of my computers and each had some important information on it.  So, I finally accepted that it was going to be nearly impossible to fix the problems because each fix I applied resulted in another problem.  I chose the newest computer to overwrite the OS because I thought it had the best possibility of success.  That did turn out to be a good choice.  Now I can go back to the others and fix them.

One of the other manifestations of the problem was that I couldn't seem to get a clean file backup, after trying 3 different backup programs on each computer.

I purposely did not put some of the problems in the help request.  Had I done that, I thought it would confuse the issue.

In summary, I credited the two people who mentioned the OS problem in their solutions.

tx for posting this
imo - you cannot post 1 Q for 3 pc's..i feel each one has different problems

VariableJBAuthor Commented:
Might be, but I thought that I would spend all my time typing instead of working on them.  They were all not exactly alike, but  very similar and my objective was to get one laptop working. But, you are the expert and I will not do that again.  I stand corrected.

it is far from me to correct somebody; i only give my view on the matter
and the reasonn i said that is simply that many errors can arise if you apply one solution for a given problem to different pc's
but you've  got one working - so that's ok

You may certainly be right, and when I have time to check the others, if I cannot correct them the way that I did the other, then I will post them.  Thanks for your concern.  It is appreciated.
