Cannot remote desktop to internal server

I have a Windows Server 2008 server that I can not remote desktop to from my desk or from anywhere else for that matter.  It is set up to allow remote connections, I can ping the server.  However, when I go to connect, I get "Remote Desktop cant connect to the remote computer"

I have never had an issue with this server, or this issue for that matter.  Any ideas what could be the problem?  No new software has been installed on that server

Have you double-checked the firewall settings on the server? Also: By  no new software, do you mean that you have not applied any Microsoft updates?

Windows firewall is turned off.   And correct- have not installed any recent Windows Updates

Third party firewalls?  Antivirus software?  If either are installed, uninstall.
With firewall off

netstat -a shows which ports are listening you need port 3389 to be listening

if not then use the firewall program and open port 3389
If you run a port scan against the server, is 3389 open? Run it both from your workstation and also from another computer in the same subnet as the server.
3389 is open and listening
Check event logs after making an attempt see what shows post results

I decided to change the cable into a different NIC on the server.  That resolved my issue
