SharePoint Designer 2013 can't edit workflow after Office 2013 installation

I had Office 2010 and sharepoint designer 2013 running just fine.
They pushed out Office 2013 on my workstation.  SPD 2013 now won't edit workflows.  I can see the list of workflows but I open one to edit it I get "SharePoint Designer cannot display this item".  This only happens on some workstations on network.  So I figure, must be some kind of hot fix mismatch but I've reapplied all hotfixs which are available from Microsoft Software Center.  Only a few of us are having this problem - any ideas?  I've been stumped on this for a week. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing SPD 2013 several times.   Thoughts?  Thanks for any ideas...

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

What build level is your SharePoint 2013 farm? I've seen compatibility issues in the past when a farm becomes quite a bit older than SharePoint Designer. This may not be related, but it's worth checking off the list.

Thanks for your comment/question.  Was a cache clear problem (which I swear I checked and cleared the cache 3 times).  It had 2010 file sin there which foul up everything.
