exchange 2007 inbox size

I am looking for a industry standard as far as how big people mailbox should be for a healthcare industry? I need email retention for 7 years for certain things. If we look at email archiving and email quota, what should those email size be?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

This really all depends on the business and the Type of users you are dealing with. If you have a good automatic archiving solution in place like "Enterprise Vault" where it auto archives nightly you mailbox will always be under quota (unless of course they receive a large attachment which puts them over their limit).

I like to start with a 1GB mailbox across the board and then break it out from there. Departments that receive or send more attachments should have larger mailboxes to begin with so that this limit it not reached on a daily basis. Also the type of role the user is in. A VP/CEO etc may require a larger mailbox due to the amount of email the receive on a daily basis.

As long as you have a good archiving solution in place you should never run over your limit if you provide a reasonable mailbox quota, like 1GB as I have mentioned.

Aside from that it really depends on the department and users.
