Vmware vshield Manager script

•      vShield provides a list of protected virtual machines names - No Reporting feature to Export into csv
•      vShield provides no detail list of unprotected virtual machines- General number of vms – again No Reporting feature to Export into csv
•      No way to schedule report on a weekly basis.

Can a script be leverage to pull the info  like Powershell ?

Antivirus vendor doesnt have a report feature like this  that calls the API  to give a list of protected and unprotected.

Which vShield product are you using? Is this Edge, App or Endpoint? Which version?

Ah, since it is Endpoint, it would be better to get it from the antivirus solution that you are using because not all VMs will be protected. The antivirus application has control over that and vShield Manager doesn't know what is protected and what is not protected.

Well vShield does know which virtual machines are protected but doesn't list the ones that are not .  It only tells you how many VMs are on a  Host .  Also there is no export feature in web interface that I am aware to generate a report.  I am too lazy to write a script and have it report on a weekly basis since Sophos ( oh I'm sorry )  developers haven't thought about doing this .  Maybe I will scare them talking to another vendor next week at the RSA :)

from Sophos

You use the Vshield Manager to report on machines not protected vs protected

I checked with one of my friends from VMware and he confirmed that the vendor should be able to get you the information and that with Edge there isn't a way to get reports from vShield Manager for this. He also mentioned that McAfee was the best at it. :)

Hope that helps!

Thank you Melanie for your feedback !  .. The SAV was still  insistent on VMware  adding  this feature .
