RAID-6 in HP DL-380 gen 9 server

Dear all,

We are in the market to purchase some HP DL-380 servers. Overall we know what we want and have an issue with the HP proposed B140i Controller which does not support RAID-6 (only 0, 1, 10, 5).

What recommendation would you have (we want to use the internal bays in a RAID-6 config with SAS drives) ?

The servers I purchased have the P440ar controller.

I just purchased 14 DL360 Gen9 servers for my remote sites. Single Proc, 32 GB RAM, I am using RAID 6 on 1.2TB drives running ESX 5.5, so far its been great. Especially since the Gen 9 comes with a HP OneView license, management is seamless.

Thanks,
Dillon

Thanks for your comment - what controller do you use for this ?

B140i is Intel chipset controller with HP's firmware on it, unfortunately HP do not put real Smart Array controllers on the motherboard any more. Add a P440ar/2GB to it for RAID6 and decent performance.

it seems that the DL-380g9 has indeed the RAID6 capable P440ar controller built in. Thanks
