How do you find the sourcemailbox server mailbox by NetBIOS name?

I have an issue migrating a mailbox from Exchange 2010 to o365 of which I have a clue that the problem may be because the new-moverequest is failing because it could not find the sourcemailbox mailbox server by NetBIOS name resolution.  I am not sure how to test this?

QUESTION: how can I test if I can find the sourcemailbox mailbox server by NetBIOS name on our network?

Thank you!

Hi,

You have to configure suffix in DNS tab, refer to this:

I am already able to ping SBS2011 and SBS2011.schneider.local from both the network and the SBS2011 server itself. If I make this change (last part of article) would it still allow my failed mail user to migrate data to cloud? More detail on failure below:

MapiExceptionNetworkError: Unable to make connection to the server

1. Make sure all Exchange related services are configured to “Automatic Start” and running.
2. Check all the necessary ports mentioned in this article.
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh852522.aspx

3. If firewall or proxy servers deployed, disable them.

Hi,

You need to have communication between O365 and your server, it seem you are using the private suffix .local do you have public DNS ? have verify your domain in the O365?

Here is a guide on how to verify the domain in o365

https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Verify-your-domain-in-Office-365-6383f56d-3d09-4dcb-9b41-b5f5a5efd611

and a guide for step by step migration:

http://blogs.technet.com/b/canitpro/archive/2013/11/20/step-by-step-migrating-from-exchange-2007-to-office-365.aspx

BTW could you please let me know at which step you got the error?

Best regards.

I made the changes to the DNS tab on the Exchange servers NIC adaptor and started another sync.  I guess time will tell? I resumed the migration about an hour ago, all boxes (mostly incremental’s) have completed except the box in question. The box in question status is 'syncing'. If I highlight it the same sort of errors appear but I don't know if that is accurate or not. Is there a way I can confirm the syncing is working or not while the migration is in operation??

***The step I get the error in seems to be after all the other mail boxes sync successfully and the attempted sync on the box in question is completed but I am not sure about this.

Hi,

So I guess you have only one problem related to one mail box?

Try this EMS powershell get-mailboxdatabase | clean-mailboxdatabase
