Application Hang

Hello,

I am trying to open a Word document that I received in my Microsoft Outlook inbox. When I try to open the document from Outlook, Word starts up but immediately freezes and becomes unresponsive when the document opens. I've tried repairing Outlook as well as disabling a couple of add-ins that get loaded when the document is opened. This is the only Word file that crashes when I try to open it and it only doesn't open on one particular laptop. When I try to open the Word file on other computers, it opens without a problem. Any insight would be appreciated...Thanks

Have you tried to save the document to your computer?

See if that works.

This could be a document problem. Try remaking the document (copy text to a new document).

This could also be a Windows Profile problem. On the problem computer, make a new, test Windows User Profile (Account). Log into the new account and test Outlook in the new account.

I can open the document under a different profile on the problem computer. I copied the text into a new document but the same problem occurs...

try opening with wordpad see if that works
Also

run msconfig

on the services tab hide all Microsoft services  then disable all others
on the startup tab disable all
restart computer

what happens if same thing then  John's new profile would be next.
Word seems to freeze when it is trying to load the add-ins for the application. I disabled a few of the add-ins but the problem persists
What version of Office?

uninstall office

restart computer

reinstall office

apply updates

test
Office 2013
As noted earlier reinstalling / repair Office (most any version) does normally not fix a profile problem.
take a look at others with this issue

Also

try this

1) Open your office application.
2) Like open word 2013.
3) Click File-->Options--Trust Center Settings
4) Select Protected Mode.
5) Disable everything from there.
6) Click on OK button
7) Double click on your Office attachment file
Thanks for all the help. I found a work-around for the issue. I believe there is a problem with the Windows profile because the Event Viewer showed an error message pertaining to the user's profile. I will continue to try to fix the profile but for now, I'm good with getting the document open.
@millerdog  - Thanks for the update and I was happy to help.
