Netapp Snapmirror

Hi ,

We are creating a SRM environment now for that I need to create two Datastore on different sites and establish snapmirror between them. I am new to this so please help me out how can I proceed.
Also will this be able to replicate data from primary site to secondary?

First you will want to make sure you are using the same version of OnTap on both filers.

Snapmirror will replicate the volume from one site to the other.

These are the steps you need to do,

1.       Add the Source Filer (Filer1) to the snapmirror.allow file on Destination Filer in etc$ folder (both lines, IP and DNS).  I use NOTEPAD ++ for this.

192.168.89.241
source.domain.com

2.       On the Source file do the same and add your IP and DNS to the snapmirror.allow file

192.168.109.57
destination.domain.com

3.       Create a volume on destination filer called:- test and set the size to 1 GB and set it to restricted.

4.       Add the following line to snapmirror.conf on destination:- source.net.domain.com:test destination:test - 30 4 * *

5.       Manually issue the command on the filer to start to initialise the snapmirror:- snapmirror initialize -S source.domain.com:test destination.domain.com:test

 6.       Check the logs and see if this has worked correctly.

This can also be setup from the NetApp OnCommand System Manager

check the logs....and snapshot dates for the volumes.

when the command is issues, the sync will take place, and then it's a case of setting the schedule, when do you want to replicate.

ok is there any way we create bidirectional snapmirroring. In current scenario I snapmirrored A(source) and B (destination) again created another snapmirror relation with vice versa.

Will it work?

You can only snapmirror from Source to Destination.

The snapmirror on the destination, cannot be snap mirrored back to the source, because it has a relationship already with the source.
