Smartphone Storage

My smartphone says total device space 8GB. System memory required to run the system 2.58GB. Used space 2.31GB. Then it says available space is 112MB. This is confusing me !!! If I have 8Gb and used space is 2.31GB how can available space only be 112MB !!!

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

For now, it's reasonable, you didn't add  the two numbers up (8GB -  2.58GB - 2.31GB = 3.11GB left). Also, in that screen where you check it, there are more items (Cached Data, Miscellaneous files). You have to add those too. Probably adding those, will add up to just around 8GB (possible a bit lower).
Anyway, if you have an SD card slot free, use that to store more things to offload your main phone memory (as you can now hardly use your phone now), and can't install apps, take pics etc etc.
If no free SD card, offload older pics/movies to the cloud.
