Using a SharePoint list across sites

Hello Experts,

I have a SharePoint list that I created in one site that I would like to be available across multiple sub-sites.  Is that possible?  If so, what would the steps be?

An example:
Site A has a SP list of Customers
Sub-site B has a list called Status that needs to use that Customers list as a reference tool when populating the Customers name.
So, the Customers list is the source of reference for users to populate customer information on the Status list on Sub-site B.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Why does it need to be a list? You could define a Customer "list" in a Choice field or Managed Metadata as Site columns available in the whole site collection. These would be managed in a single place.

Thank you for the quick reply!  My apologies as I am a beginner to SharePoint design.  Your solution sounds like it would work for me but I am unfamiliar with the process to how to create managed metadata as site columns in the whole site collection.  Would you be able to point me to that process?
