Connect SQL Server from Lotus Domino Application

Dear Experts,

Good Morning.

Currently our Lotus Domino Application connects SQL Database through ODBC (ODBC DSN created in Domino Server). Now we want to give access to this applications to our users, Users are using Lotus notes.  In order to access SQL Database from client side (with lotus domino application) there is a need to create ODBC DNS in every client computers.  We would like to avoid the ODBC configurations in every client computer.

I would like to know the applications cannot connect Sql server using Server ODBC ?

I hope my question is clear.  Please help me to understand the concept ASAP.

Thanks in advance,

With Regards,

Tajudeen.

Try to read all about DECS, and see if it fits your needs. DECS allows transparent access to external (SQL) servers, it comes with every Domino server.

You could start here: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSVRGU_9.0.1/com.ibm.designer.domino.main.doc/H_ACCESSING_DATA_IN_ENTERPRISE_APPLICATIONS_STEPS.html

More documentation: http://www-12.lotus.com/ldd/doc/lei/70/decsdoc.nsf/2e73cbb2141acefa85256b8700688cea/384073f27890bc5f85256fdd005dfdb8?OpenDocument
Especially the Users Guide is interesting.

And this probably is a paid solution: http://www.easysoft.com/applications/lotus_notes_domino/odbc.html

I have not explained my question properly.  please excuse.
Let me explain in detail.

Currently our lotus domino applications are fetching data from SQL server.  It is working fine.

If a user clicks a button from 'lotus notes' application, it is accessing sql database through odbc dsn created from user pc. (if no odbc dsn created from user's pc the application will not work)

The question is how to use the application WITH OUT ODBC configuration from user's pc ?  The application should get access to SQL database through the ODBC DSN created in 'Domino Server'

Basically the Domino Server should access the SQL server and get the data and transfer it to the client (lotus notes) application.

Because our users are located outside of our network and experiencing slow in connecting through client odbc and we want to avoid creating ODBC DSN in each user's pc.

I hope now it clear and awaiting for the advice.

Thanks in advance,

If you use DECS, you don't have to install ODBC. Check it out, please.

I don't know Lotus Domino but usually if an application don't use ODBC to connect to a database it needs client drivers to be installed in the client machines and the application need to be configured to use the database client driver. Usually you can find a configure.ini file or something similar. But you need to confirm it in Lotus Domino manual.

The Native Client for SQL Server is SNAC.

That's where DECS comes in: Notes contacts the Domino server, when DECS is set up on the Domino server it contacts the SQL database, so there's no need to set up ODBC on a client PC.
