Vmware - vmotion error with RDM

Hi all,

Vcenter 5.5 esxi 5.1

Trying to migrate a VM that has a RDM disk but i get the following error:

Virtual disk 'hard disk 3' is a mapped direct-access LUN that is not accesible. In order to proceed with the operation, the targets disk's datastore and format must be different than that of the source disk. Unable to access file ds:///vfms.......vmdk

I have tried detaching - migrating to other host and then reattching but I can initialise the disk.

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi Matt,

Target host does not have this Lun  zoned , you can use esxcli to confirm / Or goto vsphere client and confirm the device is visible from target host .
Click devices as it’s not a vmfs datastore  , check that the correct naa. Or eui. Is there .

If you are unsure on how to get the original .naa / eui . run this in powercli .

Get-VM -Name $VM | Get-HardDisk -DiskType "RawPhysical","RawVirtual" | Select Parent,Name,DiskType,ScsiCanonicalName,DeviceName

Cheers,
Jo
