Tried to install SQL Server 2014 Express on a client's new server this past weekend and got this error at the very end of the install process wait on the database engine recovery handle failed .

So I restarted, uninstalled it, restarted again, installed it again and got the same error.  Not quite sure what the issue is.

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I would uninstall SQL Server 2014 Express completely and then try executing the installer with elevated permissions.  Use the "Run as Administrator" option.

Not sure if it was this, or me changing the account the Server uses to start the Database engine, but just re-installed and it went flawlessly.
