Im looking to upgrade to CU8  - do i need to run prep AD/Schema on the DC? or can i simply just run the setup installation file on the exchange server and the wizard will do this for me...?

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

As long as your account has Schema Admins rights, and Exchange Organization Management Exchange will do the ADPrep automatically when you are installing the CU8 update.

Hi Will,
im using my Administrator Account - member of Schema Admins.... So basically i can download the CU on my exchange server and just run the CU? so i don't need to do any prep AD/Schema on the DC at all?

That is exactly correct. Exchange will do this automatically, before the installation process. All you need to make sure is that your account has the proper permissions.

If you have 2 Teams (one for administering Active Directory and another team for administering Exchange) then you can have your AD Team run the Schema update on the DC directly. But if your account has correct permissions and you have access to the Exchange server then it will do it as you run the CU update on the Exchange server.
