Need to upgrade Cisco CP8945 phone's firmware

I'm having trouble getting firmware upgraded for a Cisco CP8945 phone. When it's plugged into the network it just says "phone not registered" and "upgrade in progress" and infinitely loops. I'm assuming this is a firmware issue needing resolution in CUCM software. We are on version 9.1 and the following article is for v4, v5 or v6

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/voice-unified-communications/unified-ip-phone-7900-series/108090-upgrade-ip-firmware.html

I have not upgraded firmware on a Cisco CP8945 phone before so i'm looking for a how to guide on how to do this. Can anyone help me out please?

This is the method I always use and recommend:

What is the entire CM version you are running, out of curiosity?

not going well so far... I did all the steps , except on Step 3 I didn't upload all the files to the backup server that has the TFTP service on it too... i guess that's what I'll do now.. the phone just infinitely loops on "Phone not registered" When I leave the Phone Load Name out though, it does the "Phone not registered" and then after a bit says "Upgrade in progress" So I seem to be affecting things, but still not getting anywhere...

oh and i just uploaded SCCP files, not SIP because i was led to believe the phone is using SCCP based on another video phone using SCCP. i dont know do i need to upload everything? Can the 8945 use both? I'm not an expert on this and didn't really get a ground framework understanding of how it all works from the get go

Can registering of the phone happen if the "DHCP Monitor Service" is not running?
