Synology DDNS setup with Zoneedit

Hi,
I need to setup DDNS through Zone Edit to work with a DDNS.  I get an error failed to connect to the server.  Please check the network connection of the server.   Synology DDNS documentation is very basic.  I'm not sure if I need to do is setup an account with Zone Edit and authenticate with Zone Edit or is it much more involved.  Please assist

Hi,

If I'm understanding you correctly you want to configure DDNS through ZoneEdit for your Synology. If this is the case you'll indeed need an account with ZoneEdit to achieve this, you'll need to configure some things in the admin page of ZoneEdit.

You either subscribe for an account with ZoneEdit or select the free option provided by Synology:

Service Provider: Select a service provider. To register for a free hostname provided by Synology, choose Synology from the drop-down menu, click Register Now, and enter details as directed.

Well shoot... That was easy.   I didn't see DDNS with Synology.me    Why isn't that simple with Zoneedit?  I already setup the account through Zoneedit.  So I wouldn't mind some steps continue after initial account activation.

Heh ... I thought you saw that but really wanted to go ahead with ZoneEdit anyway, goes to show you should never assume...

What are you getting stuck with? Do you know your own IP-address, because you'll probably gonna need it... This is easy to find out by typing "what is my ip" in Google.

I get an error failed to connect to the server.  Please check the network connection of the server on the Diskstation after registering my account with Zoneedit.  The diskstation in DDNS does display WAN IP.  Do I need to configure something in the Zonedit console?

Yes, naturally, you need to tell ZoneEdit your IP-address of your "server" ... Did you look at the link I provided above? The checklist:

-  Add your domain name(s) to our system or purchase new domains. --> ZoneEdit
-  Add the current IP Address of your machine in the ZoneEdit control panel --> ZoneEdit
-  Download a Dynamic DNS client that supports ZoneEdit --> This part you can skip it's actually your Synology so...
-  Configure the Dynamic DNS client to update ZoneEdit --> Synology

On ZoneEdit you'll need to find the DNS config tool and create a DYN record... If I'm not mistaking.

It appears I have to change the DNS server to zoneedit if I wish to manage through my existing domain.  That's a hassle.  I've attached a jpg to where are I think I add a zoneedit Domain.   However, I'm not sure why it's prompting to enter a domain when I believe zoneedit should provide one.

synology.me DDNS is much preferred over the other options.  I still wish I understood why I couldn't the other option to work but I don't have time.
