"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

You will need to format the drive with a 512 byte sector size.

Have a read of this:

Note that Windows backup will only backup a max of 2TB Image
Change drive in disk management to gpt.
Not possible.
You will need to get drives that are supported that still use the 512 byte sector format and no drives over 2.2 TB will work period.
I recommend the WD Reds  as they are shipping with a 512E sector size.

If you have a NAS ,you can use it for backup as it not be affected by the 512 sector issue.

If you're married to that Seagate ,then you might want to try one of these to adapt it as a NAS:,2817,2392221,00.asp

If you really want to do things right and not worry about the 512 thing or disk size ,get a 3rd party like Symantec System Restore 2013.

I have it working on 5 or 6 of my systems ,no issues.
