sshpass hangs when connecting to PfSense box

I am trying to SSH to my PfSense box using sshpass to specify the password file. If I just use a normal ssh root@ip cmd it connects just fine but if I specify a password or password file using sshpass (sshpass -p pass ssh root@ip) I get a hung cmd prompt. I have to then kill the process to return to a console. This started happening after I upgraded to PfSense 2.2.

I also tried adding -oStrictHostKeyChecking=no to the cmd as recommended in an article I found on the issue but that did not help.
