Gig Interface vs Etherchannel

I will be reconfiguring my switch inter-network. My question is, I am running out of gig interfaces, (I need 2 extra)
what is the main different between an bundled ether-channel and Gig interface? Let's say I will bundle 4 fastethernets on each end 4 on each side.
There might be a lot of traffic flowing by.

A aggregation bundle (EtherChannel, PAgP or LACP) takes two or more links and runs them as a virtual connection with the combined bandwidth of the member links.


• You get fault-tolerance in the link. If one member link dies, the connection stays up using the aggregate bandwidth of the remaining links.
• You get cheap aggregate bandwidth. Bundling four Gigabit Ethernet links is going to be a lot cheaper than a 10 Gigabit link.


• Bandwidth is aggregated by load-sharing connections across the member links, so no single connection can use more than the bandwidth of a single link. I've had lots of people ask why file transfers across such links are slower than expected ... and this is why.
• Both ends of the link need to be configured to support the aggregation group.
• The link needs to be monitored more carefully. It's easy for connections to fail and not be noticed when others are picking up the slack.

so its not like i will get double the speed of the bundled interfaces I will just get load balancing

Correct. If you have a number of connections, then they will share across, but no one connection will exceed the bandwidth of one link.
