Error when setting Security Permissions on Server 2012
I have a Server 2012. When I try to set user permissions on any folder I get the error:
The advanced page cannot be opened because of the following error:
The network path was not found.
The error occurs when I click the Advanced button.
I can set permission in Sharing but not in Security.
Please see attached screen shots.

The Server is AD Controller. It is on this machine I need to set permissions.
I tried turning the firewall off anyway but it makes no difference.

did you set the DNS Server IP in the TCP/IP properties on this server?
ASKER
Yes. This server is the DNS server. The DNS ip is 127.0.0.1
are you log on with a domain admin account while trying? and does the account you are logged on has full control on this folder?
ASKER
Yes and yes.
The curious thing is that the error occurs when I click the Advanced button in Security but it works perfectly in Sharing.

note that the DNS server must points to its private IP in the TCP/IP properties (not to the loopback address), so you must remove 127.0.0.1 and add the private IP of the DNS server, and run ipconfig /flushdns in a cmd prompt then try again to access the advanced tab

I just changed the DNS to 192.168.1.1 which is the IP of the server.
I ran ipconfig /flushdns. Result was "Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache."
The problem is still there.

do you have more than one NIC enabled? if yes please disable all except one and try
if it not works, make sure that you don't have a firewall issue, it might me other than the windows firewall, like McAfee or Norton firewall....
ASKER
Two network cards. One is disabled.
No other firewall.
No other firewall.
How many DCs in your network?
ASKER
Two. One at a remote site connected by VPN. The other one works OK.
Ok it seems when you clicked the security tab and tried to change permissions, the action is performed on the remote DC that is why you received the error "the network path was not found" so make sure there is no firewall issue between the 2 DCs and they can reach each other.
refer to the below link to check the connectivity between the 2 DCs:
