CLUSTERED SHARED VOLUMES

Hi Guys,

We are currently having a NETAPPS 50 TB storage box installed.  Excuse my ignorance but can someone explain why we would want to use CSV in a single SAN environment?  We are being told it improves performance on the write ..... If anyone can help me understand the reasons for CSV it would be appreciated.

Hi Byron

The only thing I can think of to improve performance would be to put more spindles in the aggregate...

As you are using a single box I don't see what you mean by CSV... you could say if you had two filer heads, they were clustered, but all that would do is give you HA, not a performance improvement.

Maybe someone know more than me though...

CVS is not Netapp technology but Microsoft technology. You need it if you want to deploy Windows Server failover clusters, e.g. with Hyper-V.

It will not improve performance, but it will allow multiple servers to access the same LUN simultaneously.

Oh! Are you talking about Micosoft CSV for HyperV? That won't do squat for ya!

EDIT: Unless you are using the SAN for HyperV with multiple hosts.... of course.
