NetBeans Error: Field <fieldname> not used

I have a Java project which I'm developing using NetBeans 8.0.2. A private field named "wordCount" in one of the class definitions is being flagged by NetBeans as "unused." I'm not sure why I'm getting this warning since several of the class methods contain references to that field. I've been away from Java for quite a while, so I suspect there's something obvious that I'm missing.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I doubt that class is the problematic one, as it IS used. In any case, what you're getting sounds like a warning rather than an error

Yes, it looks like you were right! By the time I finished coding and testing the program, that warning "automagically" disappeared!
