SCCM 2012 R2 Reporting Service db connection issue

I have SCCM 2012 R2 running on the same machine as its SQL DB. Every thing shows green.
Now, the first role I am trying to configure isn't working. Not sure what I am doing wrong here. I have enabled and configured the reporting services on SQL DB. However, When I try to configure reporting role within SCCM, the only database that is available is the original database that was used from SCCM configuration. If I remove that and enter the database name from SQL reporting services, I get an error message. The db isn't verified. I have attached screenshots. Please help.    I have SCCM 2012 R2 running on the same machine as its SQL DB. Every thing shows green.

Is it the default instance?

No, it is not the default instance.  And  When I try to install it on the default instance, SCCM reporting doesn't work at all. I tried to resolve that issue for weeks now, and I just couldn't.
SO that is why I created a separate db and tried to use that. Now, I don't much about SQL DB, but do I also need to create a separate instance for SCCM reporting services?
