Documents don't stretch to A3 after installing XenApp6.5 roll up pack 5

I have deployed new Xenapp 6.5 published desktop/app hosts. These new hosts have roll up pack 5 installed.

Users can print fine to normal A4 pages, however if a user then tries to print to A3 in word/excel for example, we pick A3 & stretch to fit page, it only changes the page size. It won't stretch to fit the page even though it's selected. The content remains in A4.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I must be obtuse since I don't see any relation between virtualization software and printing.. One normally does the page size settings inside of the application and then send it to the printer.

Did you tried to reinstall citrix universal print driver, if not you can try updating the same and check.

The link is Citrix universal printing. Sorry I should have mentioned that David Johnson.
I will try reinstalling the CUP Client after office hours. It was installed after rollup pack 5 was installed during the build process.

Are you using the Universal Print Server?

Yes I am

It's been a while since I've messed with the Universal Print Server piece (just to confirm, I'm not referring to the Universal Driver, but rather the piece that installs on a print server in your environment).  The reason I've asked specifically about Citrix UPS is because I have seen instances of limited functionality with some printers to ensure compatibility.  I'm not saying that is the case here, but it is worth noting.

What version of the Citrix Client/Receiver is being used?  The Universal Print Driver updates are included with newer clients, so sometimes that will resolve some printer issues.

What is the printer model you are working with?  In some cases I've had to use native drivers for specific printers, although I generally make an effort to avoid that when possible.  I have seen many environments (mostly banks) that don't use the UPD at all for issues similar to what you have described.

Reinstalling the Universal Print client didn't work.

Re the receiver, it is 4.2, but it seems to be more related to the installation of Rollup Pack 5.

It worked fine before with Rollup Pack 4. There is always some stupid major change ever time a new rollup pack comes out.

Which version of the Universal Print Server are you running?

Both Server & Client are  v7.1.1.0

Also seems like other things have been impacted as well. EG If I change the margin to narrow instead of default in MS word, the page will still be printed with default margins. However the content of the page is still displayed in narrow margins. So it cuts off the edges of what has been printed.

So not just related to A3 after all.

This doesn't really address your issue but is more a point of caution if you are considering upgrading UPS.  Pay particular attention to post # 3.

http://discussions.citrix.com/topic/361379-hotfix-rollup-pack-5-for-citrix-xenapp-65-breaks-universal-print-server-76-sometimes/

It seems there are several private fixes floating around, but I haven't been able to confirm anything regarding your specific issue.  I don't know if calling Citrix Support is an option, but it may be in order.

I have tried a few things since the last post.

Upgraded UPS to 7.6 on the print server and UP client 7.6 on the XA hosts = No Change

Uninstalled RP5 off 1 XA host and installed RP4. Also reinstalled the Universal Print client as it is not meant to be installed before the RP, rebooted host = This fixed all printing issues........However

The next day the Citrix Print Service keeps stopping randomly during the day. I have to start manually and ask the users to log in & out for printers to appear.

Should I have built a new hosts from scratch with RP4 rather than try roll back from RP5? or should I continue to try troubleshoot my latest changes?

HowzattAuthor Commented:
Seems to be stable now that I was able to restart the hosts after rolling back to RP4 & CUP 7.1.
There must be a bug in RP5 with our current print solution. I will try RP5 again at a later date.

There's definitely bugs in R05 with Universal Print Server and there are private fixes that have been released like I mentioned, but you have to call Citrix to get those.  You never mentioned if that was an option.

HowzattAuthor Commented:
Sorry should have mentioned, I logged with Citrix support and they couldn't help me with any hotfixes. The tech knew nothing about the issue.

HowzattAuthor Commented:
I resolved the issue myself (by rolling back versions). There does not seem to be a fix for my issue at this stage.
