exchange mails inbox restore

Hi all

This is something new for me.

we have a user whose inbox "suddenly" has gone missing. I suspect its deleted or moved to another folder. Few users access that shared mail box.

Exchange is a vmware host so backed up by vcentre.

is there any how i can restore just the inbox emails?

Exchange should also be backed up using a dedicated Exchange agent. This will either be at a database level or mailbox level.

Depending on your backup software, restore methods will vary

Are you sure, because VMware vCenter does not usually backup VMs, it's just a management server, with no backup function

Have you checked Exchange for Deleted Mailboxes ?.

To search recoverable items in dumpster only V 2.0 :
 
Search-Mailbox -Identity “username” -TargetMailbox “testact” -SearchDumpsterOnly –TargetFolder RestoredItems

If the mailbox was in fact deleted it will be located under the Disconnected Mailboxes section in the Exchange Management Console.

From there you select the mailbox and re-attach it back to the origainal user. If this user no longer exists you can attach it to another AD Account that does not already have a mailbox associated with it.

If you are simply trying to recover deleted items from a mailbox then what you can do it check the "Recover Deleted Items" folder and restore the emails from there. By default there is a 14 day retention so all of the email should be there and no need to restore from backup.

Thanks guys for help, managed to find the emails, she moved it to another folder after!! but had look we have veam for back up so tried doing a test restore as well and worked perfectly ok!
