Windows 2012 Setup help

Windows Server 2012 R2

Installed Windows Server 2012 R2 as a Member server on a windows 2003 domain
all good and functioning in the domain no problems
even software that was on the old 2003 member server installed and is working
Just ironing out the kinks before I upgrade my DCs

My question is a strange one

On the Desktop I have the following image displayed

Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard Evaluation
Windows License valid for 179 days
Build 9600

I did install the eval version downloaded from MS site

I have a valid product key which I applied

Verified that the product key was added by
using computer properties
View Basic information about your computer

Under Windows Activation

Windows is activated

I ried changing the desktop all it did was change the color

How do I get rid of this image?

Have you rebooted?

First thank you for replying

Yes I have re started

I have several updates to apply

Will see what happens after that

Still wondering why when I applied the product key the screen image did not change

Honestly I've had problems activating trails properly.  Supposedly it's possible, especially for member servers, but I avoid using trials for anything other than "trying".

Please review this technet article
which states: You can convert the evaluation version of Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard to either Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard (retail) or Datacenter (retail). Similarly, you can convert the evaluation version of Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter to the retail version.

Before you attempt to convert from evaluation to retail, verify that your server is actually running an evaluation version. To do this, do either of the following:

From an elevated command prompt, run slmgr.vbs /dlv; evaluation versions will include “EVAL” in the output.
From the Start screen, open Control Panel. Open System and Security, and then System. View Windows activation status in the Windows activation area of the System page. Click View details in Windows activation for more information about your Windows activation status.

Looking like the product key I purchased is not valid for this windows product

Even tho the control panel. Activation display shows that windows is active but no details button

When I ran the command above it displays eval version

Contacted seller waiting for answer

Will post later

Thanks for the input

Just spoke with my reseller the product key is for Windows 2012 DataCenter version

I installed Windows 2012 R2 Standard

Was thinking to just upgrade to DataCenter version

From my understanding only difference is the licensing for VMs
standard only 2 VMs
DataCenter unlimited

tried this command

dism /online /set-edition:Windows Server 2012 R2 DataCenter /productkey:xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx

error 87

DISM doesn't regonize the command-line option "server"

what is the proper value for the /set-edition:     for Windows Server 2012 R2 DataCenter?

This does not help
Thomas GrassiSystems AdministratorAuthor Commented:

dism /online /set-edition:ServerStandard /productkey:xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx /accepteula

This worked after 2 to 3 restarts all working good now

Thanks for your help
