Cloud backup providers? Any suggestions?

hi guys,

We've got around 3-4TB of storage which we need to begin backing up onto the cloud. And I'm considering backups even of around 7-10TB in the very near future.

I'm talking about daily backups, full backups of files, sql databases...just not exchange.

I don't know whether to use Amazon S3 storage or not? I've checked one or two providers, which provide very fast backups (20hrs for 500gb backup to the cloud), 24/7 support, mapping to the location of your archived files/folders etc.

Now, S3 backup storage is a lot cheaper. These providers charge around £2000 per year for 500gb.

Any particular suggestions that you have?

Thank you
Yashy

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

With the initial size data transfer rate is something to be very aware of.
Amazon S3 and Azure allow you to ship them a drive with the initial backup and from there onward use incrementals via web.
Azure Device Handling: $84.36 / device then regular storage charges http://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/storage-import-export-service/ International Shipping.  Drives must be encrypted with Bitlocker.

Amazon S3 use their calculator http://awsimportexport.s3.amazonaws.com/aws-import-export-calculator.html and note the procedure involved  US only Shipping

Amazon Glacier is extremely cheap with the caveat that it may take up to 5 hours to get access to the files.

You may want to look into ExpressRoute for data access/transfer to/from Azure

if you are talking business solutions,  crashplan PROe from code42 also allows you to ship a drive,  had versionning (a must), and is relatively inexpensive. Check out my article on cloud providers (it is aimed at the home user,  but some things apply)
