Backing Up Friend's Phone On My Macbook

My friend has just for a new iPhone but doesn't have a laptop to backup his old laptop and restore to his new iPhone.

Is it possible that i can use my Macbook, which already has my iPhone setup and synced, to backup and restore to his new iPhone WITHOUT interfering with my iTunes setup and iPhone.

Also i don't want his backup saved anywhere on my Macbook after the backup and restore.

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Why don't you have him back the old phone to the iCloud instead? I believe it's under settings>iCloud>storage on the Latest iOS. Make sure he has as power cord for the phone and wifi to transfer.

I believe it's possible with iTunes on Mac by setting up a new user profile as well but the cloud is easiest.

I do this using iTunes on my PC for my wife's and my iPads.

You can use iTunes to back up any device (iPhone/iPad) but I think that you have to log on to iTunes store using the user id corresponding to the device you want to back up.

Make a new user in Apple Menu > System Preferences > Accounts (Users & Groups)
Open iTunes with the Apple ID
Perform the backup.
The backup is stored here...
~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/
In the Finder, go to menu Go > Go to Folder... and paste the line above then press Return.
Copy the Backup Folder to Flash drive
There are utilities for viewing the back data
