asked on HArd Drive Full but i can't find where the stuff is ....
Hello,
I am cleaning a laptop. The hard drive is 70GB and 68GB are full. the total data size in this laptop is 5GB. I have been looking for everyewhere and I can't understand what can be deleted. I run a software to discover wha take so much space and it tells me that 28GB are taken by the OS and another 17GB by the system files. How can I I find out what exactly to delete without incurring the risk to delete some OS important files. The software I run doesn't give me the location it gave me only a pie chart.
It's an 7 years old laptop running vista 32 bits.
Any advice please ?

Dbrunton: I have already revouved all the temp files possible :)
John & new village please send me the direct link where to download these software. I am the kind in downloading junk on my pc basically after i google the software i end up downloading or the wrong link or extra junk :(
thank you for your help.... I had the feeling that some factory software was taking space backing up some stuff but how can i find is that is true and where these things are....

Jam Software http://www.jam-software.com/ for Tree Size
Windirstat https://windirstat.info/ for the second package.
Look carefully for big backups and make sure you can see hidden files.

Also, I presume you have already taken a good look at what software is not being used,, thus uninstalled
Just adding a second to what has been already stated.....
Tree Size (free) should tell you a lot about where the space went. If you will post what is occupying most of the space, we can give better suggestions as to how to deal with it.

If this is an IBM laptop then their backup tool is taking your space.
Otherwise see if you have Windows.old folder on C.

John didn't have the time to troubleshoot that laptop with the full hardrive, the problem still persist but i have another 10 days to fix it because the owners are in vacation.
I have a big problem on my pc that doesn't let me work do you have the time to help me to figure out what could cause this issue...i have just posted the case ..take a look :IT is very weird what is it happening to my pointer. it seems like if there is a magnet that attract my pointer to the bottom right corner of the second screen. It is a new virus ? i have never seen something like this before. i tried last known good but it didn't fix the problem. If i stat in save mode the mouse works perfectly. I am using a wired mouse now and it still the problem persist.
I am using Windows 7 64 bit. the computer is protected and had no viruses at least until now maybe!!
