If you use the add/remove programs, it should uninstall properly.  (Add/Remove programs changes modes automatically).

However... and this is an important one.  If the application was *not* installed using change user /install by *someone else* and then you try to uninstall it, it will very likely fail because the directory structures don't match.  In that particular circumstance, the user account that installed it must be the one to uninstall it.  (You can hack around that part, it is a lot of work and very chancy at best.

And all of this is based on the idea that the program had a relatively "standard" installer, otherwise it may just not be doable.

Hi apollo-13,

1) Follow this link: How to troubleshoot Windows Installer errors

2) If this fails, you can CCCleaner (Tools -> Uninstall).

3) You can use the free, Windows Installer Cleanup Utility from Microsoft. This will not uninstall the application, only cleanup the registry and Windows Installer information.
It is now longer available from the Microsoft website, you will need to look for it on other websites.
