ebay returns

I sold an iPad on eBay and received payment but have not yet sent the iPad in the mail.  I was selling this iPad because my kid wanted to use the money to buy an iPod touch.  Well, he changed his mind and now does not want to sell the iPad.  Can I ask the seller to accept a refund through paypal or since I have received payment am I obligated to send the iPad to them?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

One of the possible reasons for ending an auction is 'item broken or no longer available' or something like that.
The buyer will probably be disappointed but as long as you contact them apologising that you cannot complete the sale I don't think anyone can force you to part with your item.
It may have been discovered broken when you went to wrap it and that would have the same result.
You are not being dishonest, it was a genuine sale and your circumstances changed.
Contact the buyer, explain and apologise and refund them.

You should contact the buyer and explain him what happened and that you want to make a refund.
If he understand it and accept it then you are lucky.
But legally, any trade done over Ebay is like a contract. There are moments when you can cancel the transaction and moments when you cannot. In your case is too late, everything is finished, is done. Now, you must respect your side of the contract.
