select idenity value in gridview

Hi

I have a stored procedure that inserts and then returns the identity.

cmd.Parameters.Add("@IVRECORDID", SqlDbType.Int).Direction = ParameterDirection.Output

Open in new window

 How can I get my gridview (GridIVRecs) to use the retuned value as the parameter to select the gridview row as soon as the record is inserted.

Hi,

1. Add a HiddenField to your ASPX as below the GridView

  <asp:GridView ID="GridView1" runat="server" OnRowDataBound="GridView1_RowDataBound"></asp:GridView>
               <asp:HiddenField ID="HiddenField1" runat="server" />

Open in new window

2. Do the Changes after this line.

cmd.Parameters.Add("@IVRECORDID", SqlDbType.Int).Direction = ParameterDirection.Output
cmd.ExecuteNonQuery()

' Add this line
HiddenField1.Value = cmd.Parameters("IVRECORDID").Value.ToString()

' Bind the GridView
GridView1.DataBind()

Open in new window

2. In RowDataBound event

Protected Sub GridView1_RowDataBound(sender As Object, e As GridViewRowEventArgs)
	If e.Row.RowType = DataControlRowType.DataRow Then
		If e.Row.Cells(0).Text = HiddenField1.Value Then
			e.Row.BackColor = System.Drawing.Color.Green
		End If
	End If
End Sub
