Problem using SyncToy with external HD connected to a router

I have been using SyncToy v 2.1 to synchronize files between the computers in my office for a few years without problems.  It's simple and effective for what I need it to do.  All computers are running Windows XP or Windows 7.

Lately I installed a new router with a USB port on it and attached an external HD to it.  Samba.

When I try to run SyncToy using this drive, the initial synchronization works but subsequent tries will results in an error.

The Error: "Exception during preview: Not a valid Win32 FileTime.  Parameter name: fileTime"  I have included a screen shot for reference.

Is this avoidable is any way?  I really don't want to look for another synchronization  product.

Thanks!

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Make sure permissions are OK and that you can write to the external HD.

Microsoft Sync has one owner side and one subservient side which creates orphaned files very easily. I do not use Sync Toy for that reason.

I realize you don't want to look for another synchronization product.  But Syncback is free, and MUCH more stable, reliable, and versatile than SyncToy, which Microsoft abandoned long ago.

I don't know how to solve your Synctoy problem, but if it turns out you can't find a solution, consider Syncback Free instead.  http://www.2brightsparks.com/downloads.html#freeware

I use Sync Back Pro (2brightsparks,com) and have done for years since the Microsoft tools (Briefcase, Sync Toy, Offline Folders) were always too failure prone and picky.
