P2000 Spare Disk

I've noticed with two P2000 Storage Arrays I have when I have a failed disk and I replace the failed disk, the replacement disk I put in seems to turns into a spare disk and not to the orgninal spare disk - is this by design in these arrays?

No points for this as you have found your answer but the reason it doesn't behave like a server with a HP Smart Array controller in it is because it isn't made by HP, it's made by Dot Hill and uses completely different algorithms.
