laptops and encryption

Is there an easy way in AD Users and Computers to list all active Laptop computers joined to your AD? And is it possible to tell whether the drives on them are encrypted, by whatever means?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi,

There is no option to check these in AD but you can use some third party tool or WMI script to do that. Regarding the encryption, you can try http://www.concurrency.com/infrastructure/enable-bitlocker-automatically-save-keys-to-active-directory/

Unfortunately i haven't tested this before.

The only issue would be if they are using some 3rd party tool that isnt bitlocker. Im sure there used to be an ADUC query where you could filter if the device had a battery or not.

No, there is no way to determine that other than some 3rd party component. Most encryption software suites offer some central management that would be able to tell which drives are not yet encrypted.
