HP Insight Diagnostics Test - no tests available

I have DL320 with RAID ctrler that has been dying on my lately.
The RAID finally died (I suspect) so I wanted to run some diagnostics to see what's going on. Downloaded and installed the HP Insights Diagnostics CD and booted into the program, but after it did the computer hardware survey, it brought me to the screen where I choose which test I want to run. But there are no tests available.

Has anyone seen this before where the HP program scans the hardware but doesn't offer any kind of test to run? I'm afraid there might be a bigger problem if I can't run any tests!

my Insights Diagnosticis Offline Edition is version 8.2.0.2012a - Dec 9, 2008. Shouldn't this work?

Proliant is acquisition from Compaq.

Do you have any recent HP server (bought within last 3 years)? That should suffice to download any FW packages.

so I've done a little troubleshooting without the HP Insight tests.

Ran the Seagate SeaTools since I'm using those in my server.
The tests were able to identify any hard drives that I have in the first two slots, but would not recognize any drive I have in the right 2 slots.
Which software should I use to test if I have any hardware problems with the motherboard or anything related to that?

Thanks!

nobus,

My apologies! Sorry, I didn't see your post requesting my diagnostics. Didn't mean to ignore you like that. I saw your links, however, and d/led and ran the Offline Edition. Strangely enough, when I get into the program and want to run some tests, it scans my system and no system components populate on that list, so it doesn't allow me to run any test on any specific parts. Had I been able to, I would have either found the issue, or at least discussed what type of error messages I would have received.
Certainly didn't intend to come across as ignoring you. I was just trying to find some other program that might be able to better diagnose my issue.

Next week, I'm going to pull together my service agreement and download the current service packs and Insight software. Will post back of my findings.

Thank you for following up!

That is latest version that you can sneak past paywall and download.

So to gheist's recommendation, I downloaded the service pack, burned it onto a DVD and booted up to it. There is a screen where it asks for Automatic or Interactive update, but with any option I choose, the system seems to 'hang' at the next week, where there is the pulsing HP logo, and a loading status bar, which appears to be at 100%.

Per nobus, here are my results from the two software links your referred to:
Insights Diagnostics (offline): The GUI loaded up, but no components showed up in the list for me to test any          component.
Smart Start: I boot into it, but when trying to access the Insight Diagnostics from within that program, it leads me to a broken Firefox website saying that it couldn't access the page.

Yes, this is all sorts of trouble. Any other steps I can take?

Thanks!

Proliant service pack takes some 20 minutes to install on G9 server

Hmm...so is this normal? I have a DL320 G6. The Service Pack screen shows the pulsing HP logo, so it isn't completely frozen, but the loading bar seems like its just sitting there at 100%. I let it sit for about an hour thinking it might do something, but so far, nothing.

Maybe your CD is bad. Proliant service pack *ALWAYS* instaled for me from ISO image

then it looks like your raid controller is bad -any chance to replace it for testing?

jumpassociatesAuthor Commented:
@gheist
I'll have to redownload and burn another DVD..will give it another shot

@nobus
I don't have a spare raid controller to test from. But shouldn't the diagnostics at least allow me to test even without a functional raid controller?

nobusCommented:
that depends on how the software is written
if it does not see the controller - there's nothing to test

You can press "esc" on that linux to see console messages... Namely what device is at fault ( or that cannot read DVD sector for example)

The Smart Start software didn't work for me, so I found a newer version (8.40) from the HP site.

Downloaded, burned and ran it. Running Complete Test right now...this might be a while...
