WSUS - Win 7 Workstations not patching due to needing Windows Update Update

Hi

Many of our Win7 PC's are not patching from WSUS (have downloaded patches and ready to go).  When we do a manual install it says Windows Update needs an update.

Could somebody please tell me the KB or how to push out this update from WSUS to get these PC's patching?  Thanks!

Tony

WSUS clients automatically get the update agent from WSUS.

Is your WSUS patched with the latest update ??

normally i think that windows update needs to update first. so try and find the update or kb for windows updates and deploy it using GPO to install as an msi.

the kb will be for the windows update agent or the group policy client extension

so there is no way to push it out through WSUS?  I found the update package, but we're talking about hundreds of PC's in multiple domains and multiple OU's.  I already have WSUS set up and don't have time to to set and test multiple GPO's...

it's not in the microsoft catalog so you can't import it
i'll have to check my wsus server to see if it appears there

it cant be that defficult. u download the kb and create a gpo to install the msi. u schedule a weekend where u powerdown all workstations. gpo installations dont work so well with a reboot.

Can you tell me the KB number?  When I download the agent and run in on my laptop, it only says agent update...   I recall for a long time (before I updated the server build image) that was the first update that had to be installed and then a reboot, so I'm fairly confident its in my WSUS server and just have to approve it for desktops, if I can only find it....

Also from your WSUS console click on "All Updates" <<Left hand side>> Then on right side approvals set to: "Any except declined"  and set status to : "Needed"

Are these approved ???

I appreciate all the comments.  The one I selected was the actual answer.  The link contained a newer wsus update that fixed the issue, and the info that wsus actually manages the client agent install.  I never know what to do with assigning points when I appreciate everyone's help, but one answer was clearly the winner.  Thanks to everybody!!
