Domain local, Global, Universal - help my understand

Actually, help me help others understand:

Environ is Server 2008 domain, 600 users.  I just took over AD.  It's a mess.  We have sec groups and some are universal, some are global some are domain local.

My thinking is, we are NEVER EVER going to have more than one domain in this forest, so everything should be domain local.  My goal?  State a standard so everyone who makes these makes them the same way and it eliminates confusion.  I can't count the number of times I've answered the question, "What's the difference and which one do I use?"  I'd like to just state to the group that we should just use domain local.

Your thoughts on when to use what and if my logic for a single forestsingle domain makes sense?

Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

create a powershell script to create the group.  Very few users should be able to create AD groups.. In a small organization which you choose is really immaterial the only difference is the scope and since you have 1 forest that has one domain any of them will work functionally identically

It is strongly recommended that you use global groups or universal groups instead of domain local groups when you specify permissions on domain directory objects that are replicated to the global catalog.
