exchange active sync help

I'm currently task with cleaning up thing on exchange an noticed that our activesync External URL is different from the internalurl.

our current internalurl is https://servername.cb.local/Mircorsoft-Server-ActiveSync and
externalurl is https://owa.companyname.com/owa

After looking things up, i came to the conclusion that our externalURL should be https://owa.companyname.com/Mircorsoft-Server-ActiveSync

My question is what is the difference between those 2 externalURL?
And if i change the current externalURL to the new one, can i do that on the FLY? Will it knock people off of activesync when change it?

Not sure why you would be using the OWA directory for this. Is it actually working? You should be using mail.domain.com/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync.

Changing this over should not have any impact on how you are connecting. This is how it should be set in the first place.

Yes its been working, we do see some cert errors, but it works.

After the research i found out that i needed to correct it. So are you saying i should be using "mail.domain.com/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync" or " https://owa.companyname.com/Mircorsoft-Server-ActiveSync"

and if mail.domain.com. why would I use that and not OWA?
