ESXi IP address configuration in vSphere.
I have a lab environment where I have an ESXi 5.5 host (parent) and several ESXi 5.1 hosts (childs). As part of the ESXi installation I have configured the ESXi host IPs as follows:
Parent: x.x.x.10
Child1:x.x.x.11
Child2:x.x.x.12
When I open a console to any of the ESXi hosts I can see that the IP has been configured, I can also ping the ESXi hosts across my network no problem. However when I select a child ESXi host in vSphere Client and select the summary tab the IP address and DNS Name configuration is not passed through from the ESXi configuration i.e. IP Addresses and DNS Name values are blank.
In the past I have managed to fluke the setup of this kit so that the IP address was visible but have forgotton how? I beleive it was something to do with enabling promiscuous mode across the parent/child ESXi hosts but this doesnt seem to do the job. Any ideas?

Yep thats correct
Okay, see my post then.
That's how you'll get the IP Address and DNS filled in, use the VMware Tools Fling.
(it is only cosmetic)

Ok sounds good, I will try this in my lab tomorrow... I am curious though as I managed to get this working without any Flings? Any ideas what this is doing under the hood?

This is to be expected, because this information is passed through from VMware Tools, which kind of does not exist for ESXi.
However...ESXi Tools have been created for Nested ESXi as a VMware Fling here:-
https://labs.vmware.com/flings/vmware-tools-for-nested-esxi
Prom. Mode is a requirement for Nested ESXi in the host, and also VLAN 4095 (ALL).
